Wall paneling

Here are a few pictures of the wall I almost finished (as nothing is yet fixed) :

As the whole workshop is supposed to be paneled, I decided to make my own paneling because buying it would have been to costly.
So I took some dark wood (not good enough for furniture) I have in stock and cut it to length and width

Then, with my circular saw and a special blade, I made a first 0,6 mm groove on both side :

The second groove is done 0,6 mm ahead and bit higher :

Because sanding would have ruined the grooves, for cleaning I used a razor blade which can be a great tool !

After painting and lightly aging, here is the completed paneling :

And now, back to work because I must do a huge quantity of this wood paneling ...

Back to my house !
And before having completed the two previous rooms, I began to organize the largest room of Lilla Hyttnäs : the workshop. This room is located to the right of the hallway.
And because it is a huge room, I decided to create several spaces. So I made a kind of platform and an alcove in front of the fireplace.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to take part of one Pascale Garnier's workshop.
Pascale showed us how to make peonies. She brought lots of different colors for petals and I choose some pale pink one.
And here is the result :

We had a lovely time sharing our pleasure and I met 3 adorable ladies.

As for me, those comfortable armchairs symbolized the east cost of the United States.
(A place "To die, to sleep— To sleep—perchance to dream".)

I am not sure I would like them in 1:1 scale, but I thought it would be quiet a good challenge to make them in miniature ;-)

Well, not exactly ! But I think I am on the good way.

Can you see my little mascot sitting on the stair ? It is made by Catherine. She offered me this sweet rabbit for my birthday last March. (Sounds like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland).
And I am really happy with Minst's ceiling lamp. I think it is perfect for the entrance.

I want to share with you the latest gifts I was lucky enough to receive.
The very first one comes from a fine and delicate miniaturist : Flora

This highly detailed suitcase is a tribute to the sinking of the Titanic. It belonged to one of the passengers who came to Cherbourg.

The second one is almost a commission I asked Catherine

This lovely painting is something I really wanted ! Actually, the original one (scale 1/1) belongs to my mother and is painted on an ordinary round tin tray. I sent a few pictures to Catherine this summer, then I made the frame.
And, at last, here is what I am working on these days :

Pascale spoiled me ! Look at those marvelous poppies she made for me !

I am such a lucky girl.
My friend Catherine offered me the two cute teapots made by Dominique Lévy and the tureens are from Elisabeth Causeret.
I won't be home for a while so don't be surprised if I don't post anything prior 3 to 5 weeks. I have tons of projects but my hands are really bad those times ! I think I need a break ...
Meantime, have a wonderful summertime with Porgy and Bess ;-)

The potting table

My gifted, highly talented and dear friend Catherine B. and I decided to play a four hands piece to offer to another great miniaturist : Pascale Garnier who makes so realistic and beautiful flower kits.
So, I made the table and Catherine painted it.
And, here is the result :

(this time I have chosen to work with lime tree ... bad idea, this wood is not good enough and so breakable)

You must admit I was not lying when I said Catherine is talented ! She has done a wonderful job. For me, now the table is "alive".
And you know what ? I can't imagine Pascale won't like it !!!

I am sure everyone knows Catherine. She is an extraordinary gifted and talented miniaturist (and I am really for those who might don't know her work ...)
I have the luck to correspond with her and ... yesterday ... look what was in my mail box :

The lamp is just perfect. I can't imagine how she fixed such a tiny braid on the lamp shade.

I am reworking on my dresser. It is the very one that I have in my living / dining room.
I made a first try that you already saw but it was not so good so I have decided to redo it. And I wanted to show you how I work and how my furniture are made.

Exhausted but happy, I am back home after 2 weeks abroad.

Anyway, I went through with my 26 drawers and, believe me or not, the longer part was to fix all the handles (actually, it was just a nightmare !).
OK ! It is time for the show :

I needed a small break in constructing my new house. So I have began this unusual furniture, a kind of tall boy, which could be perfect to hold furniture's plans for example as I do need to have a workshop in my house ;-)

I am just in the starting blocks to make the 26 drawers but I still need an idea for closing the doors ...

Franchement, il y a encore du boulot ! En plus, j'ai tellement bizarrement coudé le support que je n'arrive pas à passer mon fil électrique ... En me promenant de-ci de-là sur les blogs, je constate toujours que les ateliers sont (presque) impeccables et les tables de travail ordonnées. En bref "une place pour chaque chose et chaque chose à sa place".

La palme revient à la "salle des machines" qui n'a pas vu d'aspirateur depuis un temps certain ...

La petite table m'est particulièrement chère : elle m'a été offerte par Michel Teilhet. J'en ai juste changé la couleur (à l'origine or patiné) et j'espère ne pas trahir la mémoire de Michel Teilhet avec ce coloris cerise.
La console avance : les quatre pieds sont prêts (après beaucoup d'essais et erreurs ...).

Je ne croyais pas si bien dire en choisissant le titre de mon précédent post ...
How well inspired I was when I choose my last post title ...

En effet, en raison d'un dégagement de fumée dans le tunnel sous la Manche, nous sommes restés bloqués plus de 4 heures 30 à Calais devant l'entrée du tunnel ... Et sommes arrivés à 14 heures au lieu de 8 heures ...
Because of smoke in the Channel Tunnel, we have been stopped at Calais for more than 4 and a half hours ... We finnaly arrived in London at 2PM instead of 8AM ...

Autant dire que la visite du salon s'est faite au pas de charge et à marche forcée !
Et que, la fatigue aidant, le cœur n'y était plus vraiment.
Do I need to specify that it has been a rush and short visit ?

Le temps de récupérer les paniers commandés à Zara Thomson-Ribeaud, d'acheter un peu de quincaillerie et quelques baguettes et le salon fermait ses portes.
Just in time to bring back the baskets ordered from Zara Thomson-Ribeaud, to buy a few hardware and moldings and it was time to leave the dollhouse festival.

Pour un mini-reportage, ça c'est un tout petit riquiqui reportage.

N'y a-t-il pas quelque chose en nous d'Alice lorsque nous regardons et réalisons une scène miniature ?
Depuis que je suis entrée en miniature, je cherche en moi le facteur déclenchant, la raison de cette fascination. Et je n'ai pas encore de réponse satisfaisante. C'est le quatrième jour d'affilée que je publie ! Incroyable, après de si longs mois en attente. De si longs mois passés à remplir ma poubelle. Très bientôt, le cimetière de mes essais avortés ou en attente.

Finalement, et après peu d'hésitation, j'ai préféré peindre mes fenêtres (qui m'ont donné du fil à retordre, n'en doutez pas) dans le même coloris que la pièce elle-même.
Je voulais une pièce chaleureuse qui sent le propre et le meuble ciré. Et il semble qu'elle prenne bonne tournure.

Finally, and without any doubt, I had rather painted the sash windows the same color as the walls.
I wanted a warm fresh clean room that smells furniture waxed and my aim seems to be reached.

Ponçage et mise en teinte du parquet.
Une première mouture des encadrements de fenêtres qui seront recommencés (combien de fois ? je ne sais plus).

Je cours plusieurs lièvres à la fois. La sagesse populaire nous enseigne pourtant que "qui trop embrasse, mal étreint" ... Toutefois, impossible de me refaire, impossible de me faire violence !
Après avoir mis en chantier une nouvelle maison pour mettre en valeur le travail patiemment enseigné par Didier Wetzel, j'ai rabattu mes prétentions pour ne faire qu'une chambre à coucher.
La voici, patiemment et longuement mise en scène ... Et moi qui m'étais juré de ne la montrer qu'une fois le poêle réalisé ...

au passage, quelques meubles et accessoires ...

La suite ... demain car je suis quand même allée plus loin !

Je te dédie cette porte Catherine : elle s'ouvre et se ferme ...
J'ai le plaisir d'être liée d'amitié avec Catherine, miniaturiste de talent dont voici quelques extraits :

et enfin, enfin, son grand œuvre une maison de souris creusée dans le tronc d'un très vieil arbre

Je dois beaucoup de choses à Catherine à commencer par un nouveau regard sur la miniature et depuis que je la connais j'ai des audaces que je n'aurais jamais eues avant.
Cette jolie jeune femme a un culot dans le traitement de la couleur qui est rare en miniature. Rien de ce qu'elle fait n'est ni convenu ni attendu. Et de ce toupet associé à son talent, naît un univers précis qui me ravit.
Grâce à son œil, j'ai repensé la structure de mon rez-de-chaussée en me débarrassant du trumeau de la cheminée et en montant une cloison pour créer une cage d'escalier.
Grâce à elle, je me suis forgée mon point de vue sur un XVIIIè siècle qui s'éloigne de l'absolue perfection de la maison Pistner.
Alors, merci Catherine !
